Brinsop Court Herefordshire Wedding

Brinsop Court Herefordshire Wedding

Another beautiful Brinsop Court Herefordshire Wedding, Brinsop Court know how to do weddings that's for sure.

This wedding was on December 22nd and definitely had that Christmas feel to it, it even snowed! I should say, it kind of snowed, Liam and Laura had hired a snow machine which was fantastic. It was switched on just as they arrived back from their church ceremony and were being led in by the piper. It was actually quite realistic too, just not cold which was great. Their wedding was very family orientated with the children having a great time throughout the day, as well as the adults.

Brinsop Court reception.

Once everyone was in the warm and cosy Brinsop Court with the glowing fire and Christmas decorations, it was canapés all round. It was during this that I was able to sneak out with Liam and Laura for some portraits in the remainder of the December light. I love how the light falls perfectly during the evening at Brinsop Court. There are plenty of great little spots for portraits scattered all over Brinsop Court. Once we had finished it was straight upstairs to the banqueting hall which had been beautifully decorated. Here they had their wedding breakfast and speeches, again everything looked cosy and warm in the lovely candle light.

Sparklers and Portraits.

In the evening we headed outside for a sparkler shot, loads of fun to do and some more portraits. It was then onto the cake cutting and dancing with the awesome Breakthrough playing some great tunes.

Dewsall Court Wedding - Hannah & Gordon

Dewsall Court Wedding

I got to go back to the beautiful Dewsall Court for Hannah and Gordon's amazing wedding in December. If you haven't had a look at Dewsall Court for your wedding venue; then you should, this place is just stunning. Even on a cold, wet December day this venue oozes class. The main house is just as a country house should be, warm and cosy. The Wainhouse, where you can have your ceremony is absolutely stunning, lit with softlights and candlelight, it's beautiful. If you love candlelight you will love the decor for this wedding, walking towards the Wainhouse in the evening light, just looked breathtaking.

The Wedding.

Hannah and Gordon wanted their wedding to be relaxed, fun and about everyone being able to enjoy themselves. They didn't want staged photographs, just a bit of direction from me during their portraits. The whole day went superbly, their ceremony in the Wainhouse and then head back to the main house for canapés. A small number of group photographs and some quick portraits, along with the guys, just being guys.  After a quick speech from Hannah's Dad and a bit of music, it was sparkler time! The manic moment of sparklers being lit whilst everyone has a few drinks on board always makes me smile to myself.

After the sparklers, everyone made their way back to the Wainhouse for the wedding breakfast. It was then back to the main house for desserts, espresso martinis and cupcakes which were for one of their close friends as a birthday surprise. The Mustangs played a few tunes and the partying got underway. After this, it was back to the Wainhouse for a Ceildh with Tweed in Bourbon, this looked like loads of fun! After the excitement of the Ceildh, the DJ kept the party alive into the early hours.

It was great to work with the following wedding suppliers.

2018 Review

My 2018 Review

What a year that was!

I feel so fortunate to have been invited along to capture your love, tears and laughter and have had such a blast in doing so. So many moments to look back on and so many friendships made too. Every single one of you made my job the most enjoyable job I could wish for. I really do get the most amazing couples to work with and appreciate all of you so much.

Whenever I make my way to a wedding, I always have a clear head and have learnt to expect the unexpected. Sometimes what I do is photojournalism, sometimes during portraits I will create something a little different for you. Every single time though, I am pushing myself to do my best for you.

2018 was a year where we basked in glorious sunshine for long periods, then right in the middle of it we got soaked to remind us that we are British. 2018 was also the year that I got to shoot my first wedding in the USA.  I made my way to Huntington Beach California which was an awesome experience. If you are looking for a destination wedding photographer, get in touch as I'd love to hear from you. Most of all though, 2018 was the year that I got to share some great times with you all!

I have also been fortunate enough to work with some of the best wedding suppliers time and time again. I look forward to spending more time with you all in 2019 and meeting more of you too.

Enough with the words and on to some of my favourites from 2018. No generic slideshow with music you might hate, just a set of images that you can scroll through at your own pace.

Barn-Wedding - Lisa and Ed

Lisa and Ed's Lyde Arundel Barn Wedding.

This was the Anglo, French barn wedding of Lisa and Ed. Their wedding was simply amazing with guests from France and the U.K spending the day celebrating in the sunshine. They had an outdoor ceremony on the grass gardens overlooking the Lyde Arundel lake. When Lisa made her way down the aisle, Ed's face told a perfect story as he saw his beautiful bride walking towards him. Their wedding was all about fun and just being relaxed and able to enjoy themselves along with their guests. There was plenty to eat and drink for everyone and their whole day was just one of celebration.

Huntington Beach Wedding Los Angeles - Ashleigh and Sean

Huntington Beach Wedding Los Angeles

Wow, wow, wow is all I can say about this wedding and Los Angeles too! I was so excited to be asked to be Ashleigh and Sean's photographer for their Huntington Beach wedding. I first met Ashleigh about 4 years ago when I was the photographer at her sisters wedding in Hampshire. To receive a phone call nearly 3 years later, asking if I was available to shoot their wedding was a nice surprise. To find out it was in L.A was somewhat of a shock, of course I literally answered yes before they had even finished asking, who wouldn't?

Throughout the next year I was kept up to date on proceedings by Ashleigh's Mum, Sarah. As the time drew nearer I found myself watching Youtube videos on L.A more and more. I had never been to L.A before, in fact I hadn't even been to the U.S.A, so this was all new to me. To have my first destination wedding in a country that I had never been to was a bit daunting when thinking about it, but also extremely exciting too!

The Wedding

As soon as I started on the day though, it was business as usual. All be it in a beautiful Hotel, by the beach, in one of the most amazing cities in the world. Yep business as usual.

American weddings are a bit different to what I am used to here in the U.K. For instance, the wedding ceremony was at 5pm (5.30 in the end, Brides tradition to be late). They then have a cocktail hour, then it's straight into the reception. Time wise for portraits we were up against it which is nothing new but the Hotel grounds had some nice spots to use. Ashleigh and Sean were fantastic to work with and both looked amazing too!

Ashleigh and Sean's wedding was such a nice occasion. surrounded by family and friends, mostly from the U.K who had all made the trip to celebrate with the happy couple. It was quite an emotional day throughout but I think the most emotional part happened when Ashleigh opened a letter that Sean had written. First Ashleigh tried reading it but couldn't because of the tears, then Mum had a go but then she had to hand it over to Shannon, who is Sean's cousin to read it.

The Hyatt regency is a beautiful Spanish style hotel right on the pacific coast. Huntington Beach is basically a surfers paradise with miles of white sandy beaches and some amazing waves. Lyde Court Barn Wedding - Abbie and Chey

Lyde Court Barn Wedding

I was so excited to be Abbie and Chey's photographer at their Lyde Court Barn Wedding in August. I just knew they were both going to be so much fun to work with. The whole day just had an amazing happy feel to it with so much fun and laughter everywhere. Abbie and Chey were two girls who just wanted a relaxed and happy day with all of their closest friends and family. Their day had it all, an emotional ceremony, funny speeches and of course some great shapes on the dance floor.

Portraits in mud.

I have to take my hat off to Abbie and Chey as there had been some rain recently but they still (Abbie insisted) wanted to go to the top field for a photo shoot. Whilst walking up there, the most amazing light was cutting across the fields with some dramatic skies in the background so how could I refuse. The mud, oh the mud on the dress! Was Abbie bothered? not in the slightest, smiling and laughing all the way through. Back down to the barn for more dancing and a  hectic sparkler shot later on. (photographers, have you tried a sparkler shot with nearly 100 guests that have had a drink? Then you'll know...) everyone was slightly excitable about the sparklers, me too though as I do like a sparkler shot.

Herefordshire Marquee Wedding - Laura and Scott

Herefordshire Marquee Wedding

I loved working with Laura and Scott at their Herefordshire marquee wedding in August this year. They were such a cool laid back couple who just wanted a relaxed free flowing day with their family and friends and that's what they had. Their marquee was set in Laura's parents front garden and had been decorated by the couple themselves, including outside. A lot of the items were homemade and added that personal touch to their wedding day.

Laura spent the morning getting ready with her Bridesmaids and having a great time with family too. There was an air of warmth around with lots of hugs going on and plenty of smiles and laughter too. Laura's Dad spent a while ensuring the the MG Midget (his own) was looking sharp as the plan was, if it rains Laura could be driven to church.... All of 100 yards, as the church was literally across the road. As it was, it didn't rain so Laura and her girls along with Dad walked to the church.

The wedding

Scott was beaming whilst waiting for Laura, again so laid back but couldn't wait for the arrival of his Bride to be. Once they were married and had the confetti shot it was time to go for a spin in the car. We had a plan for this, I would be driven along in front of Laura and Scott in an open top car taking photos of them driving along behind us. Luckily the rain held off until we had finished this and taken some portraits too.

Back to the Marquee

Guests waited and greeted Laura and Scott with a cheer in front of the marquee. After a few drinks and canapés then a few more photographs, the heavens opened, and I mean opened. Timing wise, it couldn't have been better as everyone was heading back in to the marquee already. After the speeches and cake cutting, the rain had stopped and with guests wanting to use the games, a game of beer pong ensued. The rain did start again during this but I think the champagne was flowing too much to bother anyone.

After their first dance and a few more drinks the dance floor filled up and guests partied. It was raining still and a few hardcore beer pong fans went and had another game in the dark. I then took Laura and Scott out for a night portrait, sheltering under the trees.

Thank you for having me as your photographer Laura and Scott, your wedding was a dream!

Humanist Wedding

James and Emma's Humanist Wedding

James and Emma were both brought up in the United Kingdom but had decided to emigrate to New Zealand. They were both from farming families and had really enjoyed their upbringing around this lifestyle. So when they were thinking of where to have their wedding celebration, what better place than Emma's family farmland.

Their Marquee wedding sat at the top of the hill overlooking miles and miles of beautiful countryside. Their wedding was right in the middle of the fantastic heatwave that the UK had enjoyed. The plan was for an open air wedding in amongst the hay bales, unfortunately the weather had other ideas. Emma made her way on horseback to the ceremony, having always been into her horses from childhood, she is even a champion jockey in New Zealand! As Emma arrived at the ceremony location the heavens opened and the wind was building up with quite a storm brewing. James and Emma were tougher than this though with their upbringing and it wasn't going to spoil their day. The groomsmen quickly moved everything to inside the marquee and awaited Emma's appearance. Emma by now was sheltering from the storm in the horse box with the horse, bridesmaids and Mum.

Their day was about fun.

After their ceremony, guests had drinks and canapés. It was then that the rain stopped and I said to James and Emma, shall we go for it whilst there is a break in the rain? Sure, why not they said and we headed outside for some portraits. The bridal party followed too so we managed to have an epic time getting some shots of them having fun.

After the wedding breakfast and some very emotional speeches everyone headed outside as the sun had started to shine now. More photos and some games for the guests including a rodeo bull which went down so well, before heading back inside for a game of Mr and Mrs.

Party time!

It was a case of everyone on the floor once the music started, lots of energy and loads of fun too with the Bride and Groom in the thick of it!

English Country House Wedding - Phil and Adrienne

English Country House Wedding

Phil and Adrienne's English Country house Wedding at Brinsop Court was a superb occasion. The sun shone, which it hadn't done for a long time and their closest family and friends were there too. Adrienne got ready with her Bridesmaids and Mum in the lovely Ivy Cottage, whilst Phil spent the morning adding final touches to the venue, then getting ready with the guys in the Gothic Quarter. Rebel Rock were, as always brilliantly looking after the Bride to be. Whilst all of this was going on their guests were roaming around the beautiful gardens in the warm morning sunshine and taking in the scenery.

The Wedding

When Adrienne made her up the aisle to Phil there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Adrienne looking absolutely stunning in her Vera Wang dress holding her beautiful flowers by Issy and Bella. Their ceremony was one with a few tears and plenty of laughter, Adrienne's Mum raised a few laughs with her reading. After the ceremony everyone made their way downstairs to be treated to some delicious food from The Beefy Boys and a few drinks. The other big occasion on this day was the Grand National so everyone gathered around to watch with a few having bets on. After the excitement of the National it was time for a few rounds of pool and good old Atari games in the games room followed by some photos.

Food and Speeches

All upstairs to the banqueting hall for delicious Beefy Boys burgers (if you haven't tried them, you should!) Followed by the speeches. Some great speeches that were full of fun, Best Man Adrian was a character for sure. After a little quiz everyone then made their way back downstairs for some dancing. The first dance song  Dream Catch Me by Newton Faulkner is a favourite of mine, Phil and Adrienne rocked it! Guests then partied into the night and we finished up with some night time portraits which I love doing.

Clearwell Castle Wedding - Mel and Seb

Mel and Seb, Clearwell Castle Wedding

Mel and Seb had their Clearwell Castle Wedding in March this year. It was a truly beautiful wedding with their closest family and friends helping them celebrate in style. The weather was a bit hit and miss as you'd expect in March but it didn't affect the running of their day. We still managed to get outside for a brief period for a few portraits before Mel froze. Once back inside there was plenty of food and drink to warm everybody up and some awesome speeches beforehand.

Clearwell Castle is such a beautiful setting for a wedding and I always enjoy shooting weddings here. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and having nice big windows for a lovely glow of natural light inside, it's just perfect.
